Notices About Crime Prevention
From time to time, there will be items submitted to the Webmaster on crime prevention. These will also include items from Trading Standards, warning people about certain activities that they are aware of in Sussex.
The object is simple - to make the whole area a safer place in which to live and work.
This is not just a matter for the local police, it is for all of us to work in partnership to reduce crime, to look after our towns and villages, and to move back to safer communities. You may have seen from Chief Inspector Gough that crime is down in the Lewes District, and we are all working hard to maintain that downward trend.
So how can we help to make things safer ? There are a number of things which we can all do.
Firstly, look at our own security at home. Have 5 lever mortice locks on front and back doors. Fit window locks. Consider security lighting, activated by a passive infra red cell (PIR).
Property marking helps. The police recover stolen property from various sources, and do check to see if there are security marks on them.
Make sure that garages and sheds are securely locked. Tools from there can be used not only to sell, but also to break in to another building.
Join Neighbourhood Watch. They have schemes and actions running which help the police in several ways.
Be vigilant. If you see something unusual or suspicious, telephone the police on 0845 60 70 999. They will be pleased to get your call. You may not get feed back, but they do build up pictures of activities.
