About this Site

Seaford in Bloom began at a meeting in Seaford Baptist Church Hall in 1992.

Joyce Campbell invited both Ashley Stephenson LVO and myself to talk to an assembled company about "The Bloom".

In 1992 a Committee was formed to organise an In Bloom Competition for Seaford. The following year, with no financial backing, the committee  were able to hang 5 hanging baskets in Broad Street. The next year we were able to hang 12 hanging baskets, also in Broad Street. These hanging baskets had to be watered and maintained by the committee and other volunteers using a hand pulled water bowser, this was difficult to handle.

This year, 2012, my committee have been able to put out into the Town 5 three tier towers, 6 floral fountains, 2 oak barrels, 6 barrier baskets (outside the police station)], 2 pagodas, 22 half planters, 25 pole planters, two hayricks and 4 large hanging baskets (outside Seaford Railway Station). There is also a floral boat on the A 259 which is sponsored by Paul Franklin, The House Clearance Company

The committee have also organised an internal Gardening Competition to encourage residents and businesses to help make Seaford brighter and more colourful. This is well supported with over 100 entries to be judged. We would like more entries but in particular in the Best Street/Close category, a whole street or close is not required just 4 adjacent houses cover the entry. Our competition ends with a splendid Awards Ceremony in August somewhere in Seaford.

The Seaford in Bloom Committee is composed of 7 individuals, each talented in their own way give a lot of time to Seaford. It is necessary to raise over £4000 each year to enable us to carry out the Bloom Commitments in the Town, this money is produced from the fund raising events organised. We normally hold 3 to 4 events each year and are most grateful and fully appreciate the tremendous support we receive from the residents of Seaford.

In January 2011, we received some wonderful news;  Seaford Town Council have decided to award Seaford in Bloom a grant for 2011 towards the watering and maintenance of the floral displays in the town. The Town Council also decided to “ring fence” this grant for Seaford in Bloom as they consider it to be outside the main grants fund, due to the necessity caused by the timing of their projects.

This is very encouraging news for the Seaford in Bloom Committee and their loyal and generous supporters in Seaford, as it ensures that all the hard work required to raise the money for brightening up Seaford each year can continue for a long time to come.
