The Seaford in Bloom/Bonhams Antiques Valuation Day was held in St Leonard’s Church Hall on Wednesday 27 October 2004. A steady stream of customers throughout the day meant that an excellent £280 was raised towards the Seaford Town floral displays for 2005.
The SIB Committee would like to thank Bonhams for giving their time and expertise and ensuring the event was such a success and also the many people who supported us by bringing their treasures to be valued.
Bonham’s valuers Tim Squire-Sanders and Jeff Burfield were enthralled by the history and stories attached to the many and varied items presented to them for valuation. They had to impart some bad news to one unlucky person who had purchased an item at an Antiques Fair two weeks ago that purported to be a valuable Regency Tortoiseshell Tea Caddy, but which they decided had been manufactured just THREE weeks ago. This was the first fake of this particular model they had seen and they were apprehensive that more may have already found their way onto the market in this area. Their advice on seeking bargains at this type of event is "If it seems too good to be true then it probably is".
