Why Recycle Plastics?

Plastics are made from oil - usually petroleum, although some plastics can now be made from plant materials. 80% of our plastic waste ends up in landfill sites.
There are lots of different types of plastics and some need to be separated before re-using (PET drinks bottles for example).
There are many uses for recycled plastics, including furniture, clothing, lamps, construction, flooring. Recycling a single plastic bottle can conserve enough energy to light a 60watt light bulb for up to 6 hours.
Twenty-five recycled PET bottles can be used to make an adult's fleece jacket.
We use 8 billion plastic bags each year! Return them to in-store recycling units or give to charity shops to re-use.
