Our programme for 2008 got off to a good start with a very interesting talk from Simon Hurt of the Eastbourne Borough Council’s Parks and Gardens Department.    We all learned to appreciate much more what goes on behind the scenes and to realize what is being done regarding planting to work in with the changing climate.  Slides showed us some very pretty flower beds as well as the one designed for Scouting’s centenary year in 2007.   We shall now visit Eastbourne with a new appreciation of what goes on in “Parks and Gardens”.

We hold our A.G.M. in March which will be followed by a sketch called “Radio 4 Talks” performed by members of the Committee.   In April we shall hear about the experiences of a Paramedic and this is the month when we do our annual “spring clean” at the Sealarks Campsite in readiness for the coming season.   We do whatever is needed in the way of cleaning the hygiene suite and the kitchen while the Guiders see to the camping gear itself.

In May, a talk about the life of a Woman Pilot should be interesting as should information about the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals which will be the theme for June.   In July, we hold our meeting at the Campsite which is looked forward very much to remind those of us who are past it about our happy camping days.   The illustrated talk this year by John Colebourne is about Peacehaven.

September’s speaker’s theme is “Ink in my veins” – an intriguing title, followed in October by a talk about the Pearly Kings and Queens.  We hold a Coffee Morning every year to raise funds for ourselves and for guiding generally and this year Saturday, 11th October is the big day!   It will be held in St Leonard’s Church Hall from 10am to 11.30am.  Hope to see you there.   November sees the return of a favourite speaker, Mr Albon with “Coast to Coast” another illustrated talk.   We finish up the year with a Christmas lunch – always a popular meeting!

If you would like to visit us, please phone Gwen Jones on 01323 898647 for the afternoon meeting (first Tuesday in the month) or Iris Thomas on 01323 896429 for the evening meeting (third Thursday).
